Bring Autumn In: Jack Kinsey’s Exclusive Seasonal Styling Guide
Autumn is a special time of year. It’s the season of changing colours and wardrobe refreshes, but it’s also a time of transition in the home. While many are familiar with seasonal activities like the big spring clean, there are also those who make stylish autumnal changes to their homes which will remain beautiful the year round. In this blog, we’ve teamed up with the amazingly talented Jack Kinsey - an interior designer, DIY enthusiast and BBC Interior Design Masters finalist - to give you our top tips for an autumn refresh.
1. Earthy warmth with sparkling jewel shades
This look is all about creating a homely, warm cocoon from which to battle the elements, with rich, grounded tones layered with jewel-like accents. Think cosy terracottas, rust shades, organic olive greens and chocolates alongside jewel tones of burgundy, navy, and mustard. These are colours that feel both personable and timeless.
For the best results, start with a neutral base across the walls or floors, then build depth with deeper wall details, plush furniture, and tactile textiles.
Dark oak or walnut wall panels set a warm foundation, while glossier accessories, throws, and cushions add that jewel-like sparkle. The result of this considered approach is a space that feels homely, mindful, and effortlessly sophisticated.

Jack’s top tip:
“Going into autumn, something like the dark oak panel really does lend itself to that time of year. I’d probably pull in a dark green glossy accessory, and I’d reference those jewel box tones with a navy that complements green really well. Autumn and mustards work really well together because of all of the burnt leaves and changes on the landscape this time of year.”
2. Tactile luxury and natural textures
Our second trend celebrates the tactile element - bringing together organic materials that exemplify the sensations of sight and touch. From soft, luxurious velvets to raw wood and stone, this popular way of furnishing a home is all about embracing texture in its many forms. With the right combination of wood veneers with their unique grain, layered finishes, and the natural patterns of plants, you can soon create a space that is both comfortable and picturesque.
Maximise the timeless character and elegance of wood by highlighting oak or walnut enriched oiled panels as a focal point, and introduce natural greenery to enrich the sense of biophilic warmth. Balance smooth surfaces like brass or polished wood with rougher textures such as matte ceramics or leafy plants. The final finish is a space grounded in rich natural beauty, offering a delightful balance of visual and sensory appeal. This is the ideal environment for the colder months, especially if you like to host loved ones.

Jack’s top tip:
“The wood grain really does take centre stage and shine within this scheme.I wanted to pull in natural feels so went with different contrasting depths of green in this space, pulling it right through into the plant life. So long as there is that roughness and contrast in texture they can really bounce off each other.”
3. Characterful nostalgia and the retro revival
Channeling time tested elements of gorgeous interior design, this look reimagines mid-century style through a modern lens. By combining nostalgic character with everyday comfort - think darker woods, brass accents, curved or fluted forms, and archive-inspired colour palettes - this trend takes the best of both the classic and contemporary.
Introduce a strong foundation to your space with darker oak wall panels and retro-inspired furniture silhouettes, then elevate the aesthetic with brass details, lacquered finishes, or vintage lighting. When combined, these elements create a refined balance of warmth and sophistication, bringing mid-century charm seamlessly into modern living.
Jack’s recent garden office project drew from mid-century inspiration, making dark oak panels the natural choice for his top tip!

Jack’s top tip:
“I chose the Dark Oak Grand because I was instantly drawn to the warmth and depth of the tone. It is a statement piece while still keeping that natural, timeless character that I love to work with.”
4. Curated maximalism with a collector’s touch
An eclectic interior always tells a story. Featuring a variety of patterns with plenty of character, this fun, unique look thrives on the unexpected mix. Combine vintage items with more modern pieces, layer patterns with an assortment of texture and well-loved objects to create a new edge for your space. This trend is less about perfection and more about celebrating individuality through contrast and charm.

Reclaimed furniture paired with reeded panels is a fabulous way to add depth and a sense of quality. Create vignettes of interest with books stacked beside ceramics and beloved photographs, lighting that highlights ornaments, and collected pieces that spark conversation. With a calm, neutral backdrop to anchor it all, a space in this style feels meaningful and alive. It suddenly becomes a true reflection of the person who lives there.
Jack’s top tip:
“Paintable reeded panels are an amazing way to add texture and movement to a space. They’re also incredibly versatile - I used mine to create a stylish bookcase backing and even repurposed some for a DIY marble-effect coffee table.”

As the days grow shorter and the air starts to cool, autumn invites us to slow down and take comfort in our homes. Whether you’re drawn to earthy tones, retro charm, or layered richness and texture, even the smallest seasonal changes can make a substantial difference. Thank you Jack for your amazing tips!
