At this April’s annual Ideal Home Show, one thing became immediately apparent; interiors are shifting towards a softer, more personal style of living. In countless beautifully styled show homes and room sets, the focus wasn’t on fast-moving trends or bold statement pieces, it was instead on warmth, texture, balance, and creating spaces that feel comfortable and lived in.
Natural wooden tones, earthy colour palettes, and tactile finishes appeared again and again, helping each space feel calm and connected. To help you enjoy the exciting styles on display, we’re sharing five of our favourite design details, alongside some ideas on how to bring the look into your own home.
While there were many amazing styles that impressed us at the Ideal Home Show, these five stood out as exciting, homely and most importantly, timeless.
Linear details and stripes took pride of place at the show. Slatted textures, reeded surfaces, and striped fabrics appeared repeatedly across many of the displays, helping spaces feel layered and balanced, while introducing a feeling of rhythm.
Rather than acting as bold statements, these details were often used subtly, introducing texture without overwhelming a display. From stripy upholstery, to linear mirrors and painted details, stripes and linear patterns are certainly here to stay. This is why linear design continues to feel so versatile. It adds movement and structure, without making a room feel busy.
For many months, we’ve been talking about the move away from bright whites and minimalism, and this was reinforced at the show. Across countless exhibitions, we saw grounded, deeper colours, organic inspirations and colour drenching. While different in theme, many of the colours on display will make a space homely, cosy and unique.
There were many instances of deep blues, earthy greens and warm browns, each of which will make any living space feel like perfectly curated cocoons.
Another popular style was blending the transition from inside to outside. Gardens and patios alike were styled with the same level of consideration as interior spaces, creating outdoor areas that felt fully integrated with the wider home aesthetic.
With layered lighting, decorative accessories such as garden screens, textiles, and carefully planned dining areas, gardens and patios suddenly felt more lived-in and intentional. By carefully managing your garden’s style, you can quite easily make your entire property - whether it’s under your roof or the sky - feel connected and considered.
Repeating textures and styles throughout a home - and even its garden - is a theme that's also gathering momentum.
Re-using materials, profiles - such as reeded and fluted wall panels - and similar lighting fixtures helps each room integrate with the others. Wood tones flowing naturally between hallways, kitchens, and living areas, shapes and profiles appearing throughout a home make for a stylish finish that feels unified and purposeful.
For a long time, many designers have been bound by the confines of a strict theme. The bedroom is scandi, the bathroom is modern minimalist, and the living room is art deco. Today however, there is a clear shift towards blending styles, taking them as merely inspirational, which ultimately lead to a more timeless finish.
At the show, light and dark woods were mixed naturally, traditional details sat comfortably alongside contemporary finishes and vintage shaker-style cabinetry was paired with modern lighting. When carefully blended, decorative choices felt softer and more understated, achieving a complementary yet unique effect.
